Invasion Of Privacy Suit Against Dr. Dre Could Be Headed To Trial

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/28/2007

A lawsuit filed against Dr. Dre by the three former Detroit City officials accusing the famed producer of videotaping a conversation without their knowledge, could be headed to trial.

The conversation, which was videotaped in July 2000 prior to a Dr. Dre performance at the Joe Louis Arena , showed Greg Bowens, Paula Bridges and Gary Brown asking the concert’s producers not to show a video containing nudity to an audience attending Dre’s show.

At the time, Greg Bowens was the Detroit Mayor’s spokesperson, Paula Bridges was the Detroit police spokeswoman and Gary Brown was police commander.

The conversation would be included as bonus footage on Dr. Dre’s Up In Smoke Tour DVD.

According to The Detroit Free Press, Wayne County Circuit Judge John A. Murphy did not rule Friday (October 26) on a motion from Dr. Dre’s attorneys to dismiss the case and said he would do so within several weeks. Murphy said his inclination is to let the case proceed.

Dr. Dre's attorney, Herschel Fink, told the judge that ‘the conversation took place in a room with people entering and exiting and with cameras obviously present, nullifying any expectation of privacy’, but Glenn Oliver, an attorney for the former city officials, says the cameras were hidden during the conversation.

Xzibit Cuts Off This Braids After Nearly 20 Years

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/28/2007

West Coast rapper Xzibit has come a long way since he began in the early 90s running around with the Alkaholiks. But as his career took off, one thing was constant, his long braided hair.
The rapper was recently spotted at Sacramento Kings owner Gavin Maloof's housewarming party in Las Vegas and he was looking very different -- completely shaven and a buzzed head.

It's the first time in his nearly 20 year career that he has been seen without his trademark braids (see photo).

The 33-year-old Xzibit (real name: Alvin Nathaniel Joiner)X began his career as a member of Tha Alkaholiks' Likwit Crew. In 1995, he inked a deal with Loud Records in which he released his debut album, At the Speed of Life, the next year in 1996.

He went on to release five more albums -- 1998's 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz, 2000's platinum certified Restless, 2002's Man Vs. Machine, 2004's Weapons of Mass Destruction and 2006's Full Circle.

Along the way, Xzibit also became household name as a host of the wildly popular MTV show "Pimp My Ride."

After all the years, X has a new look.

T.I. Granted $3 Million Bond

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/27/2007

Looks like T.I. is finally free.
According to Fox News in Atlanta, U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman granted T.I. (real name: Clifford Harris) a $3 million bond during a court hearing Friday (October 26) in his federal weapons case.

Via terms of the bond, T.I. is to remain under house arrest at his home in Henry County, but wasn't specific about the location, according to the Associated Press.

The rapper will be monitored 24 hours a day by a private monitoring service that he must pay for, and will remain at home except under certain circumstances, including medical appointments and court appearances.

He cannot own any firearms and cannot have contact with any witnesses or informants in the case, reports the AP.

T.I. is charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon, stemming from a sting in Atlanta on October 13th where ATF Agents caught T.I. in the act of purchasing the weapons (see "T.I. Arrested, Home Raided By Feds In Atlanta").

The rapper's lawyers proposed a $2.2 million bond and house arrest last Friday (October 19), but the judge denied the request until his hearing this Friday (October 26).

If convicted of the weapons charges, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.

Universal Told To Change Name of Nas's New Album "N*gger" Or Risk Losing Investments

Universal Music Group has been told to change name of soon to be released Nas album "N*gger" or risk losing $84 million in state investments a Fort Greene assemblyman said this week.

“[They are] profiting from a racial slur that has been used to dehumanize people of color for centuries,” said Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries (D–Fort Greene).

“It is time for Nas and other hip-hop artists to clean up their act and stop flooding the airwaves with the N-word.”

T-PAIN PROVES RECORD LABEL BOSSES WRONG

By TRiCk-C
10/24/2007

R&B singer T-PAIN has proved sceptics at his record label wrong by releasing the best-selling ringtone of 2007.

The rapper reveals bosses at Jive Records were stunned when his single Buy U A Drank achieved the feat. He tells Billboard magazine, ''I had people at Jive tell me they didn't believe in my product and let me know that they didn't care too much, but selling 6.7 million ringtones (for Stripper and another single I'm Sprung combined) changed their minds.

"As long as someone wants to hear my music, I don't care if it's a ringtone or the album or whatever."

New Orleans Jeweler Sues Lil' Wayne

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/24/2007

A New Orleans jeweler has sued Lil' Wayne claiming the rapper owes him $146K.

According to the Miami-Herald, jeweler Jack Sutton says Wayne purchased a $32,000 necklace and a $138,000 diamond ring from him on October 6, 2006 and to date Wayne has paid only $24,000.

Sutton said the deal was made over the phone and Wayne agreed to make monthly payments. Sutton reports receiving a check for $24,000 on October 12. He received another check for $24,000 on January 18, however when he tried to deposit it he says there was a stop payment on the check.

Sutton says he has been unable to contact anyone in Wayne's camp about the outstanding amount.

“'I've been doing business with him for at least 10 years. He's always been wonderful with paying me,” said Sutton. “He’s spent a lot of money with me. I thought we have a really good relationship. I don't know what happened, unless it's a misunderstanding.”

Sutton's lawyer confirms his client's statement.

“This is clearly a misunderstanding,” Sweeney said “If, in fact, the allegations are true, then it will be resolved. My client is very responsible.'”

AKON: 'T.I. WAS SET UP'

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/24/2007

R&B Star AKON has spoken out in support of jailed rapper T.I., insisting the star was "set up" over a weapons deal. Twenty-seven-year-old T.I., real name Clifford Harris Jr. - is currently in custody after allegedly sending his bodyguard to buy three machine guns and two silencers from an undercover police officer who was posing as an arms dealer.

But the Lonely star believes Harris was the victim of an unfortunate situation, but adds the rapper should not rely on carrying a gun to protect himself when he could afford 'legitimate law enforcement'.

He tells MTV news, "It's obvious he was set up. But sometimes when you're in a position of that stature and you're that big ... you just don't allow that energy around you. "You have to have people around you to let you know or avoid that energy. Even if he was a (gun) collector, naturally, you get a license to collect.

That's just common sense. ... At that stage where he's at, he don't need to protect himself. You hire legitimate law enforcement, or you hire people who are licensed to carry (guns). Surround them around you and you'll be safe."

50 Cent Speaks On "Before I Self Destruct"

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/23/2007

50 Cent recently spoke to MTV News about his up-coming album "Before I Self Destruct."

The album, which is slated to be released in Spring 2008, is 50's last album of original material under his current contract with Interscope Records.

"On my next album, you should expect to not see features [guest appearances] like you saw on Curtis," he smiled. "Before I Self Destruct, it's totally different. That record has a whole 'nother concept. I feel like this sets up the next batch of records. It's got what I really wanna do on it. Plus, it's my fourth album — it fulfills my record obligation to Interscope Records. I'll be a free agent."

In other 50 Cent news, G-Unit will release their second album December 18. According to 50, the album is nearing completion and they are only waiting on one last feature.

"We gotta work with Em, that's it," 50 told MTV News. "Then we can be done with it. Production-wise, I captured what I needed. But I didn't want to not have Em's stamp on it. We probably won't get his vocals until he's heard the full body of work and he's excited about it. Before my work [goes to the public], it has to pass the Eminem test, the Dr. Dre test — it's a few tests before we push them to the street. That's why they can expect a higher quality of 50 Cent music than the usual artist."

Voletta Wallace To Unveil Wax Figure of The Notorious B.I.G. At Madame Tussauds New York

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/23/2007

In a moving tribute to her son, Ms. Voletta Wallace will unveil a wax figure of the legendary Biggie Smalls Thursday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Madame Tussauds New York 234 West 42nd St. (b/w 7th & 8th Aves.), Manhattan.

After the figure is unveiled, 23 high school students from Brooklyn - where Biggie was born and raised - will honor him by singing "I'll Be Missing You," a tribute song released shortly after Biggie's death, and gospel song, "I'll Fly Away." The students are members of the Brooklyn High School of the Arts' choir.

Biggie's figure dons a white three-piece suit, white hat and white shoes and is standing with one hand in its pocket and the other hand resting on a gold and wood cane. Madame Tussauds' studio artists studied hundreds of photos and hours of video footage of Biggie to create the figure and to ensure that they captured Biggie's spirit and demeanor, as well as his physical likeness.

Madame Tussauds visitors will be able to take photos with and even hug Biggie's figure, which will be housed in its own room on the attraction's ninth floor. As guests approach the figure, they can use parts of their body to break moving multi-colored light beams to trigger clips of Biggie's songs to play.

T-Pain Busy With Production, Label, Touring

10/22/2007

It's shaping to be a very 2008 for T-Pain. The rapper tells Billboard he will continue supporting his Jive album, "Epiphany," while writing and producing for other artists and developing the acts signed to his label, Nappy Boy, which has various major-label partners.

Of his Nappy Boy artists, he's particularly excited about a group called Girlfriend, which he expects will have a single out early next year, via Nappy Boy/Atlantic.

Expect Nappy Boy to launch as a digital label early in January. Two other label acts will be rapper Tay Dizm, whose album will arrive in March, and T-Pain's original rap group, the Nappy Headz.

"Nappy Boy is T-Pain's brand and umbrella label," manager Michael Blumstein says. "The label will be a full-fledged indie label with PR, promo and everything else a physical label has, but will never go physical. You'll never see any albums in retail stores."

Meanwhile, T-Pain's own work will be everywhere in the coming months. On the branding side, he's working with eyewear maker Oakley to develop a signature line of T-Pain "Oil Can" frames. Musically, he's produced at least four songs, Blumstein says, on Usher's spring album, including possible first single "At the Time," and is featured on upcoming songs from Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson and Rick Ross. He's also co-producing Omarion's next project with Timbaland

Despite his current legal troubles, rapper T.I. continues to make an impact on the music scene, by working with R&B songbird Tweet.

The pair collaborated on "Good Bye My Dear," a song from Tweet's forthcoming album Love, Tweet on Jeryl Busby's Umbrella Records.

In addition to producing the song, T.I. appears on the track.

"'Good Bye My Dear' has that Atlanta sound, which I like," said Tweet, who seized the opportunity to work with the self-proclaimed "King of the South."

"Marz [the producer] called me one night and asked me to come by the studio, Grand Hustle, and it just happened," Tweet revealed. "I always wanted to work with T.I. and didn't know how soon it would happen. But the opportunity came about and I went for it!"

In addition to T.I., Love, Tweet will feature production from Nisan Stewart, Warren Campbell, and Novel who has produced the album's official first single "Anymore."

The singer, who was among the performers who recently honored VH1 Hip Hop Honors recipient Missy Elliott, is best best known for hit song "Oops (Oh My)."

MILWAUKEE - A familiar voice to Milwaukee R & B fans has been silenced. Twenty-one year old Yolanda "La La" Brown and her producer, 22-year-old JeTannue Clayborn, were found dead in their recording studio Friday night.

JeTannue's mother, Dina Chambers, describes him as energetic, with an eye toward making music his career. "He loved music. He loved people. He was very kind. They called him "Koo Laid" because every time you saw him, he was smiling."

Autopsies were scheduled on both Clayborn and Brown, but the results have not been released.

Jay-Z: 'Me And Lil Wayne In The Same Sentence? No'

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/21/2007

Jay-Z recently revealed his thoughts on Lil Wayne's greatness and his well documented relationship with R&B superstar Beyonce.

Hov, who graces the cover of the latest issue of XXL Magazine, claims that Wayne hasn't reached the level to proclaim himself 'the greatest rapper alive' yet , but he does have the potential to become it.

"I think Lil Wayne is extremely talented," Jay said. " I think he's one of the most talented ones out there. I mean, even more so how his delivery is than what he says. I don't think some of the things he says sometimes are the greatest things, but the way he delivers it, that's part of it."

"But do I think me and Lil Wayne should be in the same sentence? Me? No," Jay emphasized. " I mean, hopefully one day. He has to accumulate work. Put some classics under his belt."

Despite Jay's critique and the public's insinuation of him taking jabs at Wayne on T.I.'s "Watch What You Say Me", both rappers collaborated on a song which will appear on Hov's upcoming album , American Gangster, which drops on November 6th.

As reported earlier, American Gangster will feature production from P.Diddy and The Hitmen, Pharrell, No ID, DJ Toomp and Jermaine Dupri . Nas and Beanie Sigel make guest appearances on the album.

Lil Wayne came out all dramatic and bad-ass a few nights ago at the BET Hip Hop awards to debut his new track, "Gossip," and he makes it clear that lyrical ridiculousness will continue on into 2008. Maybe even (but probably not) from prison. This is more of the same from Wayne, hard hitting and extended to let him go and go and go some more. Also, I believe I hear a Dianna Ross sample?

"Drag my name through the mud, I come out clean / castaway stones, I won't even blink / a gun is not a math problem / I won't even think / just leave ya dead like the mink under my sink" - No clue what that means exactly, but I dig.

T.I.'s Lawyers Ask For $2.2 Million Bond Among Other Conditions

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/19/2007

In federal court today (Oct. 19), T.I.'s lawyers have asked for the rapper to be released on $2.2 million bond among several other conditions.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, T.I. lawyers presented the bond request to U.S. Magistrate Alan Baverman this morning. Additional conditions of the bond would include T.I. agreeing to stay in his home 24 hours a day and be subject to electronic monitoring, additional bonds backed by his record company, record company executives and the equity of his two homes.

U.S. Magistrate Alan Baverman is expected to make a ruling on whether T.I. can stay out of jail while awaiting trial on weapons charges by midday.

The bond proposal from Harris's (T.I.) lawyers included a $2.2 million bond with a cash desposit of $500,000; a $1 million signature bond signed by Atlantic Records; five $100,000 signature bonds signed by five Atlantic Records and Warner Music executives; two $100,000 surety bonds from different bonding companies and the equity of the Harris' homes, which lawyer Ed Garland said are worth $1.5 million.

A lawyer said T.I. would also allow an independent monitor to live in the home and search anyone coming or going. The monitoring would be paid for by T.I.

At today's hearing T.I. was also expected to be arraigned, enter a not guilty plea and find out which U.S. District Court judge would be overseeing his case.

T.I. was indicted on three federal charges Wednesday (October 16) and charged with possessing unregistered machine guns and silencers, unlawfully possessing machine guns and being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.

Nas To Release New Album Entitled "N*gger" December 11

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/19/2007

After days
of speculation on the title, Nas has decided to call his new album "N*gger".
The rapper says the album will be released Dec. 11 but Def Jam has yet to confirm this date.

"You ain't got no business worrying about what the word 'n*gger' is or acting like you know what my album is about without talking to me," Nas tells MTV.com about the negative response to the album title from public figures such as the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Earlier in the week Foxnews.com reported that a source close to L.A. Reid said the album wasn't on the label's release schedule.

"I don't know where that [report] came from and neither does Def Jam," Nas said. "None of us knows where that came from."

Nas recently spoke to MTV News about the direction for his up-coming album:

"Salaam (Remi) — me and him have some real chemistry," Nas explained. "He can go from Amy Winehouse to Spragga Benz to come f--- with Nas. The other cats, some of us have somewhat of chemistry, some of us don't. ... [People] shouldn't trip off the [album's] title; the songs are crazier than the title."

Other artists/producers expected to appear on the album are DJ Toomp, Jermaine Dupri and Diddy.

Cam'ron Spotted For The First Time In Months!

Category: By TRiCk-C
10/18/2007

The Dipset's Cam'ron has been spotted. Yes, Killa Cam has been spotted.

According to a report from MTV.com, Cam's camp delivered a bit of exclusive footage to the network on Wednesday (October 17), showing the rapper out and about somewhere in New Jersey, while another clip showed Cam dressed in Army fatigues and a soldier's helmet, and walking through a cemetery.

Cam'ron has been a mystery as of late. No one has seen the Diplomats first breakout star since he posted the infamous video, dressed in a tank top and boxer shorts, in the backyard of his "vacation" home on YouTube, barking threats at 50 Cent.

Not even his close friends like Jim Jones have heard from him.

After receiving the mysterious footage, MTV contacted Cam's camp, where they were told the rapper was putting the finishing touches on a mixtape titled Public Enemy.

There is no solid date of release for the tape, but the source told MTV it would drop "soon" and that the rapper would address the inner-turmoil within the Diplomats camp.

Additionally, Cam is planning to drop a new album at the top of the year, and has been shopping for a new record deal as well.

Def Jam Says Controversial Nas Album Does Not Exist

Nas has clashed with Def Jam over his plans to drop his controversially-titled new album Nigga in December - because the record label does not have any of the rapper's new material scheduled for release this year.

The Hip-Hop Is Dead star announced his intentions to test race issues with the new album during a Friday night show at New York's Roseland Ballroom - but bosses at Def Jam are only aware of the release of his Greatest Hits album - which will hit stores in November.

A source close to label CEO Antonio 'L.A.' Reid tells FoxNews.com, "There is no album release by Nas on the release schedule at this point.

"And they would be unlikely to release an album with that title. How would that look at Wal-Mart?"

However, representatives for both Nas and Def Jam have confirmed to AllHipHop.com that the new LP will stick to the sensitive title, Nigga

Rapper 50 Cent attacked a co-star on the set of his new movie Righteous Kill, according to reports. The hip-hop star - real name Curtis Jackson - allegedly got into a "heated argument" with actor Frank John Hughes after he confronted Jackson about not knowing his lines.

And the altercation was so fierce, production staff called for paramedic's assistance.

A source tells MediaTakeOut.com, "Frank tried to correct (50 Cent) and he got really upset... Before it was all over (50 Cent) had Frank on the ground pummeling him.

"The paramedics looked at Frank and he's OK. It's everyone else here that's still shaken up... No one is trying to get on (50 Cent's) bad side."

C-Murder, brother of Master P, will stand trial for a second time in February on a second-degree murder charge. A New Orleans judge made the ruling yesterday (Oct. 16).

Judge Martha Sassone announced the trial date as February 11. The charge stems from an incident in Jan. 2002 where Miller is accused of shooting and killing Steve Thomas at Harvey nightclub.

Corer "C-Murder" Miller was originally sentenced to life in prison for the crime in Sept. 2003. An appeal for the rapper was successful and his conviction was overturned in March 2004. It was later in 2004 that Judge Martha Sassone ordered a new trial date for the rapper which was decided on yesterday.

If convicted of the crime, Miller faces a mandatory life sentence.

Plies has launched www.BidLong.com , an online community blog that expresses the rapper's concerns regarding the prison system in this country. The site not only features updates from Plies himself, but it will also be a forum for fans to express their own feelings about incarceration and personal stories.

Plies recently released a viral music video for his song "100 Years," in which he addresses the injustices that people are being faced with in courtrooms on a daily basis; from inadequate legal council and excessive sentencing, to crooked law enforcement officials.

"I feel like the song is well needed," says Plies of "100 Years." "There hasn't been a record that I can remember over the course of the last 10 years that has touched on the system like this song."

In other Plies news, the ringtone for his hit single "Shawty" feat. T-Pain has reached platinum status. Plies has sold over one million ringtones to date, according to Billboard's "Hot RingMasters" chart.

50 Cent Employee Facing Assault Charges

Category: By TRiCk-C

An employee of 50 Cent who lives at his Connecticut mansion is facing assault and gun charges after he allegedly pistol whipped a nightclub promoter last week.

Police report that Dwaye "Hove" McKenzie pistol whipped Hartford nightclub promoter Howard Allison during an argument October 10 outside of Club Life nightclub in Hartford.

The assault allegedly stems from the two getting into a disagreement because Allison wouldn't announce an after party that was taking place at 50 Cent's Connecticut mansion.

Police say McKenzie pulled up to Allison and asked him to promote the after party to which Allison allegedly replied "You don't call someone up threatening to smack them because they don't big you up in the club." It was then that McKenzie reportedly got out of his Cadillac Escalade and struck Allison in the chin followed by a blow to the right eye with a pistol.

Police stopped McKenzie in downtown Hartford on Sunday (Oct. 14) and proceeded to find a 9MM and another handgun. McKenzie lost the right to possess a gun over the summer after he shot at a man who robbed him.

McKenzie is currently being held on $750,000 bail. He is due back in court November 6.

Rapper TI Arrrested on Gun Charges

Category: By TRiCk-C
Sunday, October 14, 2007

T.I. was arrested Saturday — just hours before he was to take the stage at the BET Hip-Hop Awards — after federal officials said he had paid his bodyguard to buy machine guns and silencers for him.

The arrest resulted from an investigation that began this month when a federal firearms licensee contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives about a man inquiring about buying a machine gun without registering the weapon as required by law, according to a criminal complaint filed Saturday in U.S. District Court in Atlanta.

After trying to buy several machine guns from an undercover ATF agent, the unnamed person began cooperating with the government and said he was buying the machine guns and silencers for Clifford Harris, T.I.’s given name, the complaint said. According to the bodyguard, he had bought about nine firearms for T.I., and the rapper had given him cash to buy guns four different times, it said.

Harris brokered the deals through the bodyguard because he is a convicted felon, the complaint alleged. It is against federal law for a convicted felon to have another person get firearms on their behalf.

The 27-year-old rapper had arranged to pick up the weapons just hours before he was to take the stage at the Hip-Hop Awards, being taped blocks away, according to the complaint.

Police Investigating Sean "Diddy" Combs For Alleged Assault

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Police are investigating an incident yesterday morning in which Sean "Diddy" Combs allegedly assaulted an acquaintance at a SoHo nightclub during an argument, allegedly over a woman.According to The New York Post, Combs was at Kiosk around 3:30 am yesterday morning, when he started to argue with a man named Steven Acevedo.

The two men exchanged words while walking away from each other, but later crossed paths again and continued to argue. Combs then allegedly threw a "one-two" combination and struck Acevedo in the face, leaving the man with a bloody nose and swollen lip. When Acevedo attempted to continue to brawl, one of Combs' bodyguards allegedly reached under his waist, as if he was pulling a gun.

Acevedo fled the club, went home and dialed 911 and filed a police report.
Police are looking at surveillance video and have contacted Combs to get an official statement. Combs has not been arrested or charged with any crime.

Rakim Wraps Up LP, No Release Date Yet

Friday, October 12, 2007

Rakim is reportedly finishing up his new album, “The Seventh Seal,” although the hip-hop legend announced there is no release date yet. “The number seven has a lot of significance,” explained Rakim, adding that the album will be released on his own G&E Trust Label.

“The seventh letter of the alphabet is ‘G’ -- that stands for God. There are seven continents, seven seas.”

“The ‘Seventh Seal’ deals with that and also some revelations in the Bible. Some call it the end of the world, but for me it’s the end of the old and the beginning of the new. By me naming my album that, I’m using it metaphorically in hip-hop. I’m hoping to kill the old state of hip-hop and start with the new.”

Rakim, who is currently touring with Ghostface Killah and Brother Ali in select cities, also revealed that the LP will feature a DVD with unreleased music, interviews, and live concert footage.
